Managing IP

IP audit and inventory

The purpose of an IP audit is to:

  • identify IP within an organisation
  • identify who created it to ensure that the IP is owned by the organisation
  • identify the need to obtain an assignment of IP from
    • employees
    • contractors
    • service providers
  • identify whether the IP is licensed to the organisation so that licence conditions can be complied with.

The Intellectual Property Explorer is an online tool that will help you undertake an IP audit.

It will also help you identify any gaps in your ownership or rights of the IP that you use in your organisation as well as make suggestions on how you might repair those gaps.

Using the tool will also produce an IP inventory of the IP that exists within your organisation.
